Ogliastra's "gentle" hike: two easy hours along the coast, from the little harbour of Santa Maria Navarrese to the Pedra Longa monolith. Perfect for families and for your first day.
The walk
From the harbour you climb gently past the last houses, then the trail enters the maquis: cistus, mastic, euphorbia that turns red in autumn. The sea stays on your right, a hundred metres below, until the profile of Pedra Longa — 128 metres of vertical limestone — fills the horizon.
The monolith
Pedra Longa is a natural monument: a needle of rock planted in the sea, start of the Selvaggio Blu and a climbing crag. At its feet, natural pools among the rocks and a seasonal kiosk where fish arrives on Baunei boats.
Our tips
- Walk it at sunset: you return with the last light on the sea.
- Swim in the rock pools beneath the monolith: deep, crystal-clear water.
- Non-walkers can also reach Pedra Longa by car: the road descends from Baunei.
