Four to five days suspended between sky and sea along the Baunei coast: the Selvaggio Blu is considered Italy's most beautiful and most difficult trek. Not a trail but an adventure: ledges, abseils, bivouac nights under the stars.
What it really is
Created in the 1980s by Mario Verin and Peppino Cicalò, the Selvaggio Blu retraces charcoal-burners' and shepherds' routes along cliffs plunging into the Gulf of Orosei. There are no signposts: you navigate by stone cairns, twisted junipers and exposed ledges. Water must be planned stage by stage — the route's real difficulty.
The classic stages
Pedra Longa – Cala Goloritzé (via Us Piggius), then Cala Sisine past the Ololbizzi sheepfold and the Serra Ovara abseils. Many groups arrange sea resupply with Baunei cooperatives: water, food and sometimes a hot dinner landed at sunset.
Before and after
I Mandorli is the perfect base for the eve and the recovery: sleep in silence, leave your car safely, start early for Pedra Longa. On return: a real shower, a slow dinner and a dip in Sa Barza for your legs.
- Best season: April-June and September-October
- Book guides and resupply months ahead
- Train on Punta Giradili and the Goloritzé trail
