A 50-metre limestone tower resting at 1,300 metres: Perda 'e Liana is Sardinia's most recognisable natural monument, visible across half of Ogliastra like a stone lighthouse.
Ogliastra's lighthouse
The heels are what remains of an ancient seabed, uplifted and eroded: Perda 'e Liana is their champion, a perfect tower commanding holm-oak and fern woods. For shepherds it was a landmark; for Sardinians it is a place of the heart, protected since 1989.
The walk
From the parking on the dirt road you climb gently through holm oaks to the tower's base: a 1h30 loop for everyone, the panorama opening at every step — from Gennargentu to the sea. Admire the wall, don't climb it: the rock is friable and the monument fully protected.
Why include it
It is inland Ogliastra at its best: empty roads, woods, the heritage train whistling far away. Pair it with Ulassai or the Jerzu wineries for a perfect mountain day.
