Jerzu's vineyards beneath the limestone heels

Jerzu, the Wine Town

Eight hundred hectares of vines clinging to the heels and a cooperative winery telling Cannonau's story since 1950: Jerzu doesn't just make wine, it breathes it.

The vertical wine town

Jerzu climbs the heels at 500 metres, its vines terracing down towards the sea. The cooperative winery — among the island's oldest — welcomes visitors with guided tastings: from classic Cannonau to reserves ageing with a view over Ogliastra.

The festival

In early August the town becomes a trail of open courtyards, Cannonau on tap and shepherds' dishes: one of Sardinia's most authentic wine festivals — no stages, no plastic, just village, wine and music.

Our house tip

Combine it with Ulassai (20 minutes) or Gairo Vecchio: mountains, art and wine in one day. Designate a driver or return unhurried: the heels' hairpins deserve clear heads and photo stops.
