The juniper-lined trail down to Cala Goloritzé

Cala Goloritzé Trail

Three and a half kilometres of mule track among thousand-year junipers, holm oaks and white walls: the Goloritzé trail is one of the island's finest hikes in itself — the cove is simply the grand finale.

The route

From the Su Porteddu car park you cross the sheepfold woods, then the mule track begins its descent into the Goloritzé valley. Stony but well-defined: limestone steps, bends among wind-sculpted junipers, and from km 2 the first views of the Aguglia. The final stretch hugs the wall before opening onto the cove.

When to go

At dawn in summer, any time in May, June, September and October. Avoid midday in July-August: climbing back in 35°C is hard even for the fit. When booking access, pick the earliest slot available.

What to bring

  • At least 1.5 l of water each (no springs)
  • Hiking shoes, not smooth sneakers
  • Hat, sunscreen, salty snacks
  • A snorkel mask: you will fall in love

From I Mandorli: alarm at 6:30, quick breakfast (we prepare it), Golgo by 7:40 — by 9 you are swimming beneath the Aguglia.
